Asus 6Z vs Redmi K20 Pro – which one to buy?

Asus and Redmi came up with their flagships and both boasts top of the line processor, great optics and some unique features. As they are about to release their flagship phones in the Indian market the users are right now torn between them as to which one will be worth their money? So, in this article let us weigh the features of each other and try to find out which one will be good for your hard earned money.

DISPLAY
Both K20 Pro and 6Z has 6.4 inch all screen display with very minimal bezels. There are no waterdrop notches or punch hole display here. So users will be very happy here with both the handsets unobtrusive displays.

Redmi K20 Pro has Super Amoled and in-display fingerprint sensor

The Redmi K20 Pro uses Super Amoled technology for its display whereas Asus 6Z uses IPS LCD. Although both technology has its fair share of pros and cons, for many people the punchy colors of Super Amoled display is more pleasing than the IPS LCD. Another advantage of Super Amoled in this case is that Xiaomi could able to use the in-display fingerprint sensor in K20 Pro, which again will go in K20 Pros favor as user will be able to unlock the smartphone without lifting it from the table.

For both handsets brightness level tops at 600 nits, so outdoor visibility will be no issue at all for both the smartphone.

Winner: Redmi K20 Pro (for its use of Super Amoled technology and in-display fingerprint technology)

BUILD
When it comes to build both handsets are pretty similar to each other. Both have a glass sandwich design with metal thrown in at the sides.

The Asus 6Z has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 at the front and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 at the back for protection. Whereas Xiaomi is using Corning Gorilla Glass 5 in the front but has not mentioned anything about the protection they have used for the rear glass.

Winner: Asus 6Z (for its use of Corning Gorilla Glass in both front and rear)

SOC (System on Chip)

Both smartphone has Qualcomm’s flagship processor Snapdragon 855

Here both the smartphones uses the latest and the greatest of Qualcomm, the flagship Snapdragon 855 processor along with Adreno 640 GPU. So, no matter which game you play from the play store you don’t have to worry about performance.

Redmi K20 Pro has an 8 layer graphite cooling which will help the smartphone run cool when gaming for long hours

As this processor is made out of 7nm FinFET process you can vouch for its efficiency. On K20 Pro Xiaomi has added an 8 layer graphite cooling which will further help to keep the device running smoothly when gaming for long hours.

Winner: Redmi K20 Pro (for its 8 layer graphite cooling)

RAM and STORAGE
Both smartphone will be released with 6/64GB, 6/128GB and 8/256GB RAM/Storage variant. Although Asus 6Z has support of extending the storage with a MicroSD Card slot which goes in its favor. Although for most users the provided variants will suffice well in my opinion.

Winner: Asus 6Z (for its MicroSD Card support)

CAMERA
The camera implementation is unique in both the smartphone.

Asus 6Z camera has a flip mechanism which makes the rear camera a selfie camera as well

The Asus 6Z has chosen a flip mechanism for the camera. One advantage of this is that the main rear camera will be used as the selfie camera itself which will be hugely beneficial when it comes to the quality of the selfies. That’s a definite advantage for Asus 6Z in my opinion.

Both smartphone’s main camera has a SONY 48MP lens. The similarity end here when it comes to camera for these flagships.

Asus 6Z has a secondary camera which is of 13MP and has ultrawide capability of upto 125°. This again will enhance not only regular shots but also the selfies big time.

Redmi K20 Pro on the other hand has a more traditional setup at the rear. It has the above mentioned 48MP camera along with 2 more lens. One lens is a 8MP telephoto lens which provides 2x optical zoom and another one is a 13MP ultrawide one.

Redmi K20 Pro has a pop-up selfie camera with notification light on top of it

The selfie implementation in Redmi K20 Pro is a done with a Pop-up. The selfie cam is of 20MP with f/2.2 aperture.

On video front both phones support upto 4K video recording with EIS. No OIS in any of the smartphone which is a dud in my opinion.

Winner: Asus 6Z (Simply because of the quality of the selfie camera as the rear camera flips to become the selfie camera, rear camera is almost same in both smartphones)

BATTERY
On paper Asus 6Z has a higher capacity battery, 5000mAh with quick charge 4.0 support whereas Redmi K20 Pro has 4000mAh battery with quick charge 4+ support. A 18W charger will be provided in both smartphone package but Redmi K20 Pro supports upto a 27W charger, which is amazing. Although, out of the box both are same.

Winner: Asus 6Z (for the higher capacity battery)

SOFTWARE

ZenUI 6 is polished and has almost no bloat. It is very near to stock android with some nifty features thrown in

The Asus 6Z will be launched with ZenUI 6 which is very close to the stock android. Asus over the years has trimmed down ZenUI and its current iteration is really very smooth and efficient. Asus has really done a great job over the years with ZenUI, polishing it and cutting the bloat.

Whereas, the Redmi K20 Pro will be launched with the highly efficient but controversial MIUI 10. Why Controversial? ADS in Xiaomi apps and settings menu. Well, this is one thing Xiaomi should end and sooner the better.

Winner: Asus 6Z (vanilla/stock android and No ads in the UI)

EXTRAS

Asus 6Z has a smart key which can be configured to do 3 different tasks

Asus 6Z has implemented a Smart Key which can configured to do 3 different tasks, which will be very useful for the user. Although I would have loved to have the Smart Key in the place of Power Key for the reachability reason.
Both has 3.5mm jack and FM Radio, kudos to Xiaomi and Asus for this.

Winner: Asus 6Z (for the Smart key implementation)

PRICE
The base variant of Asus 6Z (6/64GB) is priced at INR 31,999. Which is extremely aggressive.
Right now the pricing of Redmi K20 Pro is unknown but if we go by the way Xiaomi priced it in China, it will be around ~INR 26,000. If Xiaomi can release the K20 Pro very similar to what it has set in China then it will become very difficult for Asus to beat it. But if it the price is near to what Asus has set in India then Asus has real good chance of trumping Redmi this time around.

Winner: Undecided (as the Redmi K20 Pro price has not been released)

CONCLUSION
So, which smartphone to go for?
Now for specific users, the choice could be different. So, I grouped them in the following 3 categories:

1. Casual user/gamer with a good camera: Asus 6Z.
2. Medium to Heavy multitasker with more focus on camera: Asus 6Z.
3. Heavy gamer with a good camera: Redmi K20 Pro.

Well, at the end let me tell you this – whichever handset you buy you will not be a loser as both the smartphone has some real good features and top of the line hardware. Both handset has great value for money (yes, knowing very well that Xiaomi has not released the price of K20 Pro yet. But going alone with their past record it is safe to assume that).
