Top 5 laptops under 40,000 in India – July 2019

Looking to buy a laptop which has some really good specs but don’t want to go beyond ₹40,000? No problem, we have 5 great laptops for you under that range which you will like for sure. But before we show you our list, we have set some criteria for selection. Following is the criteria which we have kept in our mind while selecting the laptops for you:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 (we are not falling for Core i3 laptops at this price range)
  • RAM: At least 4GB (8GB is recommended) with options to upgrade up to 16GB at least.
  • Storage: 1TB (with options to add SSD will be great)
  • Display: Full HD (1080p)
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 10 pre-installed (there are many advantages of buying a laptop with pre-installed Windows 10, one of them is getting continuous and important security updates on time).
  • Office and other applications (Optional but will be great to have): MS Office and a anti-virus/internet security pre-installed.
  • Battery Fast charging support (Optional but will be great to have).
  • Price: Under ₹40,000

So, based on the above criteria, following are our top 5 laptop recommendation with the 1st one being the most preferred to the 5th one being the least:

ASUS VivoBook X407UA

The ASUS VivoBook X407UA is a real winner here according to us. It has all the bells and whistles we are looking for in a small package. This 14 inch laptop has small bezels and only weighs 1.55Kg. It is running on the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD and comes with Windows 10 Home pre-installed. The display is Full-HD (1080p) 14-inch (16:9) LED backlit panel and is anti-glare too which is a bonus at this price range. The GPU is the in-built Intel UHD Graphics 620 which is good enough for casual gamers and lightweight photo/video editing. As bonus, Asus has also provided a fingerprint scanner in the laptop.

The Asus VivoBook X407UA battery can be fast charged (can be charged 60% in 49 mins).

The RAM can be upgraded upto 16GB for heavy workload and has an M.2 SATA SSD Slot where you can insert a M.2 PCIe SSD drive.

Pros: Great value for money along with some cool additional features – Fingerprint scanner with Windows Hello for faster login, fast charging, an anti-glare Full-HD display and Asus’s proprietary IceCool technology to keep the palm rest surface temperature under 36 degree celsius. The slot to add an SSD makes it ever better. Small, petite and lightweight (only 1.55Kg) nature of this laptop makes it a premium one in this segment.

Cons: Average webcam – only VGA and it misses out on a DVD+RW drive in case a person needs it. There is no MS Office or anti-virus/internet security provided as well.

Price and availability: It is available on Amazon India at a price of ₹39,990 and comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Acer Aspire 5s

I was in a dilemma whether to keep this Acer laptop in this list as the price keeps fluctuating, sometimes comes down under ₹40K and sometimes goes around ₹42K. After much deliberation I chose to keep it simply because of the sheer performance the laptop has.
The laptop is powered by not only 8th Gen Core i5 but unlike most of the manufacturers Acer has provided Core i5 8265U which is clocked at a maximum frequency of 3.9GHz instead of run of the mill 8250U which tops at 3.4GHz (provided by other vendors). You can very easily expect a performance boost of 10% because of it.

The Aspire 5S has a 15.6 inch Full-HD backlit TFT display with very thin bezels. The GPU is the in-built Intel UHD Graphics 620.

RAM provided is 8GB DDR4 which can be upgraded upto 32GB, which again is fantastic for future upgradation. There is 1TB HDD provided as storage with Windows 10 Home pre-installed. Acer has also given an M.2 slot for adding SSD.

Pros: Has latest Core i5 8265U instead of the older 8250U. The webcam provided is a 720p one. Good upgradability options when it comes to RAM and SSD. Fairly lightweight (1.8Kg) in comparison to other 15.6 inch laptops in this segment.

Cons: Misses out on DVD+RW drive. No MS Office pre-installed.

Price and availability: It is available on Flipkart at a price of ₹39,990 while writing this article. Also available on Amazon India but at higher price of ₹41,700 at the time of writing. It comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Asus VivoBook X507UA

Another winner from Asus here. This laptop is pretty similar to the X407UA except that it has a larger 15.6 inch Full-HD display. So, people who are looking for a bigger screen can go for it.
The RAM can be upgraded upto 16GB for heavy workload and has an M.2 SATA SSD Slot where you can insert a M.2 PCIe SSD drive.

Pros: It has a HD Webcam unlike the X407UA’s VGA variant. Fingerprint scanner with Windows Hello for faster login, fast charging, an anti-glare Full-HD display and Asus’s proprietary IceCool technology to keep the palm rest surface temperature under 36 degree celsius. The slot to add an SSD makes it ever better.

Cons: Misses out on DVD+RW drive. There is no MS Office or anti-virus/internet security provided as well.

Price and availability: The Asus VivoBook X507UA is available on Amazon India at a price of ₹39,990 with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

The laptop comes with Windows 10 Home and MS Office Home & Student 2016 edition pre-installed. The GPU is the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620.

The RAM can be upgraded to 20GB in this model.

HP 15Q-DS0028TU

This HP laptop is extremely good when it comes to value for money. The processor is an older generation Intel Core i5 (7th Gen) 7200U with a max boost clock speed of 3.1GHz. Has 4GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD as storage. The laptop has Windows 10 Home and MS Office 2016 (Home and Student edition) pre-installed. The graphics duty is done by the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. Display is a 15.6 inch Full-HD (1080p) panel. The laptop has a DVD+RW drive.

The laptop’s RAM can be upgraded upto 16GB but it doesn’t have any additional slot to install an SSD.

Disclaimer: Prices of laptops go up and down every now and then. I have tried my best to select laptops which are under ₹40,000 and has great specs for the price but sometimes because of the fluctuations in market you may find that the listed laptops costs more than what I mentioned. Pardon me in that case.
